Colorado Avalanche score controversial goal proving the NHL still doesn't understand goalie interference
The Colorado Avalanche and Detroit Red Wings are facing off in a matinee. The two former rivals are renewing their hostilities for the first time this season. Early in the 1st period Artturi Lehkonen scored what would end up being a controversial goal.
As Ville Husso comes out of the crease to make a save, he is contacted by Nathan MacKinnon. Husso is clearly knocked off his mark, at which point Lehkonen beats him with the first goal of the game.
The Red Wings immediately challenged the goal, but after review the league somehow decided that Husso wasn't interfered with and awarded the Avalanche a good goal. But of course, to add insult to injury the failed challenge cost the Red Wings a penalty as well.
This just continues to prove the NHL has no idea what goalie interference is.
