With the WHL just beginning, all eyes are on the consensus number 1 overall pick in the 2023 NHL draft. For a player of shorter stature, a lot of people have been wondering how his game, specifically the physicality will translate as he climbs into the pro ranks, most likely the NHL after this junior season. If this is any indication, I think he'll be just fine.
Mid way through through the second period of the Regina Pats game against the Swift Current Broncos, Bedard sees a hit coming and lands a text book reverse hit. Take a look:
After said hit, Bedard starts jawing at the Swift current defender by saying get s*** on boy' and following the play back down the ice.
I like that Bedard plays with a chip on his shoulder and by all accounts he's the next generational talent to make his way into the NHL entry draft.
However, while I like the chip and the edge he plays with, I truly wonder how how much he'll have to adjust his game in the NHL next season. With him being as short as his is as well, how will he handle being hit by men up to a foot taller than he is?
Well, we won't have to wait too long to find out, and for now, there's nothing wrong with a little in game jawing as long as he can hold his own. Which in the WHL, he's shown he can.
