Could Mark Stone's latest injury by season ending? Insider reveals the news isn't good
Vegas Golden Knights captain Mark Stone has missed the past two games with an upper-body injury. Hockey insider Frank Seravalli confirmed Knights fans worst fears that Stone's injury is yet again, another back issue.
"Mark Stone, I can say with confidence is dealing with another back issue. That has to be scary news for the Golden Knights."
The 30-year-old is 2nd on the team in scoring for the Pacific Division leading Golden Knights, with 17 goals and 38 points in 43 games.
During his five seasons with the Golden Knights; he has accumulated 73 goals and 203 points in 217 games. Stone was acquired in a deal with the Ottawa Senators in exchange for Oscar Lindberg, Erik Brannstrom, and a 2020 second-round pick that became Egor Sokolov.
Stone signed a eight-year, $75,000,000 contract with an AAV of $9,500,000, the contract runs through 2026-27.
During the off-season Stone underwent lumbar discectomy surgery to help remove pressure from a nerve that was causing sharp "electric shock" type pain to radiate through his back. This latest injury could have extreme ramifications to Stone's long-term career. If Stone's back continues to be an issue, he may have to look at additional methods to help relieve the pain.
This is going to be a big week for Mark Stone. Maybe getting clarity on what we're dealing with here. I don't think anyone is really sure yet. Scott Oake said on Saturday night he's listed week to week but I don't think anyone's really sure what that means yet. I think this week we'll get a better indication. I hope it's not bad. I have a feeling we're going to get a better idea towards the end of this week what we're dealing in terms of a timeline.
If Stone is unable to play again this season, or not up to his abilities it doesn't bode well for the Golden Knights.
