Jonathan Toews admits its time for a change, leading many to believe he'll be traded by March 3rd
The Chicago Blackhawks currently own the best odds of winning the NHL Draft Lottery. The Hawks sit dead last in the NHL with a record of 11-26-4. The Hawks poor record is a bit of a surprise given that the team hasn't completely stripped themselves of NHL talent, but it appears that final tear down may only be a few weeks away.
This year's Trade Deadline is integral for General Manager, Kyle Davidson, who would love to continue to off-load talent in exchange for future assets. Davidson's two most popular trade chips are veterans, Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane.
Kyle Davidson has made it clear, he won't ask Toews or Kane to waive their no movement clauses, but they will happily accommodate a deal should the players request one. Conflicting reports have surfaced all year, about whether or not the players will request moves.
In a recent interview with NBC Sports Chicago, Toews finally addressed whether or not he'd be open to a deal and his openness has surprised many.
It's still a difficult question to answer 'cause there's a part of myself that still doesn't really want to admit the situation and also wants to continue being a Blackhawk and finish my career here.
But at the same time, there's a part of me that sees the writing on the wall and sees that this team, this organization, is trying to hit the reset button and that maybe a change for everybody is not such a bad thing, and that goes for myself as well.
Toews has spent his entire 15-year career with Chicago, after being drafted 3rd overall in 2006. Toews has won 3 Stanley Cups and has accumulated 876 points in 1,054 NHL Games.
Plenty of teams will value not only Toews play, but also his leadership and Championship pedigree. With March 3rd less than 6 weeks away it'll be very interesting to see what approach the Blackhawks will take.
