Darryl Sutter has a reputation is a no nonsense type of coach. As a player you either love him or you hate him. His only rule has always been effort and accountability. Give him those things and he'll go to war for you.
Darryl has been called a players coach, he's stern but fair and he tells it like it is but also likes to keep his team family oriented. Infact Sutter in a recent interview revealed that he keeps in contact with his players in the off-season saying:
I reach out to 7, 8, 10 guys or whatever it is. Most of the time you're checking in, seeing how things are going with their families and things like that.
Darryl has previously won two Stanley Cups as Head Coach of the Los Angeles Kings, and was hoping to bring one to Calgary last-season. The Flames looked to be built for playoff hockey but would fail to get past the second round losing to their rival the Edmonton Oilers.
However, with the moves Flames General Manager Brad Treliving made this off-season bringing in Jonathan Huberdeau, Mackenzie Weegar, and Nazem Kadri along with a coach like Darryl Sutter don't be surprised if we don't see the Flames contending this season again.
