This season the Montreal Canadiens finished dead last in the entire NHL. One of their biggest issues was goaltending as both Carey Price and Jake Allen were injured most of the season. Carey Price has multiple injuries still and may not play next year at all depending on his knee. Jake Allen has one more year left on his contract at $2.875 Million.

The Montreal Canadiens originally acquired Jake Allen from the St. Louis Blues so it makes sense that they would attempt to get another goalie from there. Ville Husso and Jordan Binnington shared the net last year in St. Louis. Husso currently makes $750 thousand so he will be looking for a raise this offseason as a pending unrestricted free agent. Jordan Binnington did not play well this past season but is still signed for 5 more years at $6 million per season. So the Blues are at a crossroads with their goaltending as well.

So it seems like Husso may be the odd man out and the Canadiens could try to reunite him with Jake Allen and create a goaltending duo for next year. A lot will depend on the health of Carey Price. Price is still signed for 4 more years and has a no movement clause. But if Price is hurt and can go on Long Term Injured Reserve, it would make sense for Montreal to create a new goaltending tandem for the 2022-2023 season.
