With the NHL Draft just days away, the start of the Free Agent Frenzy will begin soon after. With free agency set to kick off July 13th, there is one team that's been involved heavily in the rumour mill and that is the Calgary Flames. The Flames Management find themselves in a tough spot. After giving Flames forward and pending unrestricted free agent Johnny Gaudreau a very lucrative offer, they have yet to hear back from Johnny Hockey.
Much of the hockey media believes Gaudreau will test free agency. Sources believe that Gaudreu could possibly get more money on the open market, and too be fair after putting up 115 last season he probably could.
However Flames Reporter Salim Valji, from TSN, doesn't believe losing Gaudreau will hurt the Flames much. Valji would say:
If Johnny Gaudreau walks I don't think it's the end of the world. I don't think the Flames will necessarily take a step back like some people might think.
Gaudreau, 28, has played his entire career for the Flames who drafted him in the 4th round 104th overall in the 2011 NHL draft. In 602 games with the Flames Johnny Hockey has 210 goals and 399 assists with a plus 85 rating.
