The Senators drafted Colin White 25th overall in 2015. The Sens had high hopes for the Boston College product. Unfortunately for the Sens things never translated in Ottawa. Pierre Dorion signed White to a very ambitious 6 year contract with a cap hit or $4,750,000 after he put up 41 points in 2018-2019.

White never came close to those point totals again and last season he couldn't even find himself regular playing time.

Today the Senators announced they'd waived White for purposes of a buyout.

BREAKING: Ottawa Senators to buyout the final three years of Colin White's $4.75M AAV contract.

Buyout cap hit via @PuckPedia
2022/23 - $875,000
2023/24 - $875,000
2024/25 - $-625,000 (credit)
2025/26 - $875,000
2026/27 - $875,000
2027/28 - $875,000

Because of White's age and his games played the Sens will receive a cap credit in 2024/25 for the buyout. There were rumours that White could be headed to the Canadiens via trade before his buyout. It will be interesting to see where he is headed from here.
