Earlier this off season, the Philadelphia Flyers and their General Manager Chuck Fletcher promised to ice a competitive team, and it started with the hiring of John Tortorella as their new head coach, but at what cost?

Well, I think the Flyers GM answered that question with the acquisition and subsequent signing of defender Tony DeAngelo. Morals and past history apparently have no effect in and around the game of hockey- that is, if you're a decent on-ice performer. And this quote from Fletcher via Giana Han of inquirer dot com really doesn't help his case.

While I understand wanting to make your hockey team better, Tony DeAngelo has been suspended in the past for racist behavior. Age doesn't deter people from those types of behaviour's. He was bought out of by the New York Rangers 2 seasons ago, and even then should have been plenty old enough to know his reactions and the way he conducted himself wasn't and never would have been okay. It's not like he was 18(still wouldn't be okay), but he's a grown man in his late 20's. At what point are we going to hold men accountable for their deplorable actions?

I'm tired of people defending atrocious behaviour, inside of hockey and out. How long is the «old boys club» going to be around in hockey. It's 2022, and I am tired.
