We all know that Canadiens forward Johnathan Drouin has had a very rocky relationship with the the Canadiens' fan base and the media. Drouin was acquired from the Tampa Bay Lightning on June 15th, 2017 in exchange for then prospect Mikahail Sergachev. Drouin was expected to become the Canadiens next homegrown Quebecoise Superstar.
Drouin performed well in his first season, putting up 13 goals and 33 points, but he definitely wasn't as advertised. Drouin would go on to tie his career high in points during the 2018-19 season but he still wasn't winning over fans.
Beginning in the 2019 season Drouin's play and performance dropped off significantly. It ultimately got so bad that Drouin took a leave of absence for his mental health. Drouin did return this season hoping for a fresh start but unfortunately again his play has been criticized heavily along with his durability.
The Canadiens announced that Drouin us scheduled to have wrist surgery and he will miss the rest of this season. Fans unfortunately didn't take this news well and both fans and media have shared their frustration. The frustration centers around Drouin only playing 105 games while collecting his full $5,500,000 cap hit.
Even former Montreal Canadiens' tough guy Chris "Knuckles" Nilan took to social media to voice his displeasure of Drouin by roasting him on social media saying,
My God Jonathan Drouin is not playing tonight, go figure. Oh my god, poor Jonathan. What's gone wrong now Jonathan? Oh My god. Watch the game, it's a lot safer watching from home. While I understand the sentiment shared by Nilan, his perspective clearly doesn't show any respect to Drouin's mental health struggles. Drouin has been open about the battles he's had with his mental health and doesn't deserve this kind of ridicule.
