Former first round pick expected to be traded very soon
The NHL Trade Deadline is scheduled for March 3rd, but teams have already begun to get a jump on things. Last week the Vancouver Canucks traded Bo Horvat to the New York Islanders for Anthony Beauvillier, Aatu Raty and a conditional 1st round pick. Now it appears General Manager Patrik Alvin has another move on the horizon.
According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, trade talks have heated up over the last few days for former 1st round pick Brock Boeser. Boeser, who lost his father last year, is in search of a fresh start away from the Canucks.
Some information coming out of All-Star Weekend is that (the Canucks are) very much engaged in trade talks involving Brock Boeser. It sounds like that is progressing. The last time we were told something was coming was sooner than later' and it ended up being three days. I don't think it's going to be that quick. I still believe there's a little bit of work to do with respect to his future, but there are definitely conversations, they're heating up.
Boeser, now 25, is in year 1 of a 3 year deal that pays him $6,650,000 per season. In 41 games this season Boeser has just 30 points, including 9 goals. According to Pagnotta, the Minnesota Wild, New Jersey Devils and Washington Capitals have all shown varying levels of interest in the young scoring winger. The Canucks, will need to likely retain salary in any deal involving Boeser, due to the salary cap.
If done right the Canucks could really set themselves up for a bright future if they handle this trade deadline properly.
