The Buffalo Sabres have signed forward Riley Sheahan to a one-year, two-way contract, the club announced Wednesday.

Sheahan, 30, scored four goals and 17 points in 69 games with the Seattle Kraken during the 202122 season. His new deal carries a $950,000 NHL cap hit.

The 6'2″, 216-pound center played 53 games for the Sabres in 2020-21 after parlaying a training camp tryout into a one-year contract. He will likely compete for a spot on the Sabres' fourth line during camp, perhaps at center.

Detroit Red Wings originally selected Sheahan in the first round (No. 21 overall) of the 2010 NHL Draft.

The St. Catharine's, Ontario product spent parts of seven seasons with the Red Wings, scoring the team's last goal at Joe Louis Arena in 2017.

In 635 career NHL regular-season games with Detroit, Pittsburgh, Florida, Edmonton, Buffalo, and Seattle, Sheahan has scored 74 goals and 194 points. He's added three goals and seven points in 33 career playoff contests.
