During the end of year press availability Carolina Hurricanes' goalie Frederik Andersen revealed that he suffered an MCL tear on April 16 in the team's 7-4 loss against the Colorado Avalanche.

Andersen said that he was very close to returning, which adds to the bitterness of the Hurricanes being eliminated when they were.

Its not the result the Hurricanes wanted after an unbelievable 116-point regular season. They looked like one of the most complete teams in the league and won the William Jennings Trophy.

Veteran goalie Anti Raanta filled in admiralty for their starter Andersen. He went 6-5 with a GAA of 2.26 and Save % of .922. His injury history ultimately came back to bite him. During game 7 Raanta extended his right leg in a split to make a stop, and almost immediately went forward and landed face down on the ice. He was eventually helped back to the bench with assistance from teammates. He left the game and didn't return.

The Hurricanes have both their goalies signed through the 2022-2023 season. They have their top 6 forwards and top 4 defenceman locked up besides Anthony Deangelo who is a RFA this summer. They have over 30 million in cap space to work with. They should be able to lock up their pending RFAs and look to improve on their already extremely talented roster.
