One of the most outspoken player agents has called out the NHL once again. Allan Walsh, the representative for star players like Jonathan Huberdeau and Marc-Andre Fleury, called out Gary Bettman for not allowing teams or individuals to criticize NHL referees.
At this year's General Manager's meeting in Florida, the quality of officiating was reportedly discussed, but no comments were made public under the threat of fines.
Walsh commented that when GMs initiated the conversation of egregious missed calls, Gary Bettman reminded the group they would be severely fined if they were to make any details public.
Heard the NHL's consistently horrible officiating and egregiously missed calls were a «hot topic» at Day 1 of the NHL GM's meeting today. The NHL kicked off the discussion by reminding GM's that anyone who publicly criticizes the officiating will be severely fined. #GarysWorld
The Leafs have been on the side of some questionable calls and non calls recently, with the Taylor Hall incident, Auston Matthews' suspension, and the Jakob Chychrun non-call. GM Kyle Dubas was asked about officiating, and his response is hilariously disingenuous.
Not only the Leafs are on the end of brutal officiating. The problem is league wide. Hopefully, these discussions prompt action to improve or publicize NHL officiating decisions.
