The biggest extension is for Ilya Sorokin, who has been re-signed for another 8 years with an AAV of $8.25 million. Sorokin, who was a finalist for the Vezina trophy this year, ended the season with an impressive 6 shootouts and a .924 save percentage.
Alternate goalie Semyon Varlamov, who has been with the Islanders for the past four seasons, signed for another 4 years with an AAV of 2.75 million per season. In his career he's 272-220-64 with a .916 save percentage.
Scott Mayfield, who has only played for the Islanders in his career after being drafted by them in 2011, had his contract extended by 7 years. The 6'5» defenseman ended the 2022-2023 season with 6 goals, 8 assists, and 24 points.
Last but not least, forward Pierre Engvall's deal is also 7 years long with an average annual value of $3 million. Engvall startee the 2022-2023 season in Toronto before being traded to New York earlier this year. While still on the Leafs earlier in the season, Engvall had 12 goals, 9 assists, and 21 points. After being traded to the Islanders, he scored only 5 goals, 4 assists, and 9 points.
The Islanders are one of few NHL teams to re-sign a few players that they've had for a while. Despite getting knocked out of round one of the Stanley Cup playoffs by the Carolina Hurricanes, they have four solid players including two decent goalies. Seeing how well their team does this upcoming season should be very exciting.
