Some fights ignite the crowd and are great, others have the potential to be great but end up fizzling out before too long. As was the case when the New York Islanders took on the Florida Panthers last night.
With 5:49 left in the first period, Matt Martin and Givani drop the gloves just inside the Panthers blue line, take a look:
What started out between a must see altercation between a notorious tough guy in Martin and a guy who fought 9 times in 46 NHL games last year trying to stick in the league full time, sadly turned out to be pretty low event.
After a few shots thrown by both sides, mostly Martin's connecting, the two sides end up spinning each other into the ground, not really making it a clear decision for the winner.
I love guys like Martin though, you just know going he knows how many fights Smith had last year and the fact that he's still trying to stick in the NHL as an everyday player and it's nice that he was willing to give Smith a shot a him, hopefully in order to show his coaches he deserves to stay in the NHL
