With Antti Raanta clearing waivers and being sent to the Chicago Wolves of the AHL, the Carolina Hurricanes are once again hoping a well-known goaltending name cane help the team via a tryout.
As you may recall, the Canes gave Jaroslav Halak a tryout a couple of weeks ago, but decided to let him go without offering a contract. Now, Aaron Dell is being brought in.
"The Hurricanes agreed to a free-agent tryout contract with Aaron Dell last night, same as they had done last month with Jaroslav Halak although that didn't produce an NHL contract. We'll see if Dell sticks around or not post tryout."
Dell spent most of last season with the San Jose Barracuda of the AHL, although he also played four games for the San Jose Sharks. The 34-year-old has also played with the New jersey Devils and Buffalo Sabres.
With Raanta in the minors, Carolina is left with Pyotr Kochetkov, who has played just over 40 games in the NHL, as well as Yaniv Perets, who has yet to play a game in the big leagues. The Canes have said that Frederik Andersen, who is out with an injury, is at least a month away from playing again.
