Jeff Skinner facing possible lengthy suspension after vicious cross check on Jake Guentzel
Late last night Buffalo Sabres forward Jeff Skinner received a call from the league's Player Safety Department for a cross check he landed on Jake Guentzel.
During last night's game with Pittsburgh, Skinner and Jake Guentzel were involved in scrum. The two forwards were not happy with each other and slashed each other several times.
One of Guentzel's slashes seemed to hurt Skinner. Jeff Skinner decided he had had enough and proceeded to cross check Guenzel right in the face. Brian Dumoulin and Jan Rutta quickly came to the aid of Guentzel who dropped to the ice.
Jeff Skinner is not known to injure other players, he's a goal scorer. However, Guentzel's slash seemed to really bother him and Skinner retaliated. You can't cross check a guy in the face. The question is, what are the consequences for Skinner's actions? Is this just a fine? Or does this deserve a suspension?
The safety department has been inconsistent over the years so who knows what the response will be. Either way, Skinner has to be more responsible with his stick and learn not to retaliate so aggressively.
