Jets set two records, never before achieved in one night
Hockey can be a ridiculous sport sometimes, and the National Hockey League is no exception. Whether it's crazy lead changes, teams losing to a team that they should beat, late-game collapses or the old barn burner, where neither team's goalie can make a save, and it's the last shot wins type game that coaches loathe.
Tuesday night's game that saw the Winnipeg Jets play the Montreal Canadiens had a little bit of everything. In what ended up being an 8-4 decision for the Jets. Tack on a couple of NHL records, and this game would have everything that makes the NHL great (or not), depending on who you cheer for.
This game was no different in what has been an up-and-down season for Winnipeg. The Jets are the first team in NHL history to blow a 4-goal-lead and still win the game by 4 goals.
They're also the first team to go up by 4 goals, give up 4 unanswered goals, and then win the game by 4 unanswered goals. If that confuses you as much as it did me the first time I saw it on paper, the box scores on the game read 4-0 Jets, 4-4, only for Winnipeg to go up by four again and win 8-4.
If you were a fan of either team watching that game, do you take anything away from it? Bad goaltending, no defence, too much offence (is that a thing?), Or do you chalk it up as a crazy game on the first night in March?
