Early in the second period of Saturday night's game between the Oilers and Canadiens, Joel Edmundson delivered a nasty hit on Oilers forward Zach Hyman.
With the Habs already on the penalty kill, Edmundson catches Hyman in the corner, and forces him into the boards hard with his stick. The cross check eventually connects with Hyman's face as he's driven into the boards.
Hyman was down on the ice for a few minutes with the attention of the trainer, but thankfully was able to remain in the game. Edmundson however, was assessed a five minute major penalty, and a game misconduct.
With the Habs on the ensuing 5-on-3 penalty kill, the Oilers were able to connect twice and take a 3-1 lead in the game. Although there's still a place for a physical, stay at home defenceman like Edmundson, these reckless hits need to become a thing of the past.
