Junior goalie nets history
The debate about what the most exciting occurrence in hockey has happened for decades. Some will suggest a game seven, Stanley Cup winning goal; others, a line brawl and then there is the group of oddities that feel the most exciting event in hockey is the goalie goal.
Well, it happened again for what seems like the umpteenth time this season. During game five of an Ontario Hockey League playoff game between the hometown Barrie Colts and the visiting and reigning Ross Robertson Cup Champion Hamilton Bulldogs.
Late in the third period with the Colts leading 3-1 the Bulldogs pulled their goalie for an extra attacker. As the puck was dumped by the Bulldogs deep into the Colts zone, Colts goaltender Anson Thornton collected the puck and rifled it the length of the ice hitting the opponent's goal square.
The goal was the first goalie goal in Barrie Colts history and the first Ontario Hockey League goalie goal since 2017 when Peterborough Petes Alum Dylan Wells during their playoff series versus the Kingston Frontenacs
