KHL team showing interest in signing Alex Galchenyuk
Earlier this month, 2012 third overall pick Alex Galchenyuk had his contract terminated by the Arizona Coyotes after being arrested by Scottsdale Police.
A couple days after having his contract terminated, Galchenyuk released a series of tweets apologizing for his actions and showing remorse for what he did and said towards the officers who arrested him. During one of those tweets, Galchenyuk admitted he needed help and was entering the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program.
His playing future is unclear, at the top of his mind is getting the help he needs, but Galchenyuk certainly would like to continue his career as soon as he's able to.
According to reports out of Russia, KHL club Salavat Yulaev Ufa have expressed interest in signing Alex Galchenyuk and have had discussions with his agent.
Note the following quote was translated from Russian
"We informed the agent of our interest. But for now, no more. While he is doing his own thing, we do not know how things will develop. We sort of hung up the call, it will be - we will consider it. There is a budget for this. It is unclear what condition he's in." Salavat Yulaev Ufa general director Rinat Bashirov said.
Galchenyuk, 29, has appeared in 654 career games in the NHL with Montreal, Arizona, Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Ottawa, Toronto and Colorado, putting up 354 points (146 goals, 208 assists).
