This past season, Keith Yandle broke Doug Jarvis' record for most consecutive games played in the NHL. Jarvis had played 964 games in a row. Yandle made it all the way to 989 games before being healthy scratched by the Philadelphia Flyers interim head coach Mike Yeo. It was an unceremonious ending to one of the most difficult records to attain in hockey. Now it seems like Yandle's career may end the same way.

Keith Yandle was once one of the most sought after defensemen. After finishing the 2015-2016 season with 47 points in 82 games, Yandle signed a 7-year $44.45 million contract with the Florida Panthers. Things started off well as he put up 41 points in his first season, followed by 56, then a career high 62, and was on pace for 53 points during the COVID shortened 2020 season. But Father Time started to catch up with Yandle and eventually he was bought out by the Florida Panthers after the 2021 season. He signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Flyers but only managed 19 points in 77 games. Now after going unsigned so far this off-season, Yandle is thinking about hanging up the skates for good.

At 35-years-old, Yandle is nearing the end of his playing career. Without an Ironman streak to chase he doesn't have too much left to play for. He is still being paid $1.24 million per year until 2025 after his buyout from the Panthers. Whether he plays or not this year he'll still be making money.
