The Tampa Bay Lightning have had quite the run over the the last 3 seasons. Making it to the Stanley Cup final 3 years in a row and winning two is quite the accomplishment, but with that much success, comes off-season cap casualty's.

Today's trade when the Lightning shipped veteran defender Ryan McDonagh out of town for Philippe Myers and Grant Mismash. From the sounds of it, Tampa GM Julien BriseBois wasn't happy a key part of his blueline needed to be shipped out, even going so far as to take a shot at NHL commissionaire Gary Bettman per Joe Smith of The Athletic:

If we didn't live in a flat salary cap world, it would never have crossed my mind to ask Ryan McDonagh to waive his no-trade clause because I would have been ecstatic to know that I had him under contract for four more years.

I'm sure most GM's around the National Hockey League are fed up with the hard cap being in the game today, however, this is the first time I can remember a GM openly taking a shot at the commissioner of the game like this, and rightly so.

It's hard to believe the Lightning will be as competitive next season given what they're set to lose and how few assets they have left to trade.
