David Polie comments on acquiring Ryan McDonagh
Earlier today, the Tampa Bay Lightning traded veteran defender Ryan McDonagh to the Nashville Predators in exchange for defenceman Philippe Myers and forward Grant Mismash. This was a move necessitated by the Lighting' cap situation, a casualty I'm sure Tampa isn't too happy about.
Either way, Nashville got McDonagh for what is pennies on the dollar and added a much needed stabilizing force on the back end. According to the Fourth Periods David Pagnotta David Poilie GM of the Preds had this to say:
Ryan is the ultimate team player who will bring experience and leadership to our lineup. . . we couldn't be more thrilled that he waived his (NMC) to come to Nashville. With the ability to play in any situation, he immediately strengthens our defensive corps.
While Nashville added to their back end, the Lightning got 2 fringe NHLer's at best. I don't think this trade is even a contest, the Preds seem to have won this trade outright.
