In the dying seconds of the first period between the Maple Leafs and Lightning, chaos ensued when Mitch Marner was needlessly spilled in the corner by a Lightning player.

The Leafs on the ice responded to the dirty play against Marner, with Michael Bunting and Mikhail Sergachev in particular throwing hands. The referees stepped in to asses a penalty and call the game down, but one referee had the opposite affect.

Official Dan Kelly escorted Michael Bunting out of the scrum and towards the dressing room, shoving him aggressively into the tunnel.

It was a oddly physical push from an official, and clearly recognized by Bunting. The Lightning were the only team to be assessed a penalty on the play, and the Leafs went on to capitalize to take a two goal lead.

As it turns out, it's not Dan Kelly's first controversial brush with the Maple Leafs. With the Albany Devils the 2016 Calder Cup playoffs, Dan Kelly delivered a brutal hit to former-Leaf Andreas Johnsson. The hit knocked Johnsson out cold, and he missed the remainder of the playoffs.
