First-Round Pick Reportedly on the Verge of Being Traded To The Dallas Stars By The San Jose Sharks
The first-round pick Mikael Granlund is reportedly on the verge of being traded to the Dallas Stars by the San Jose Sharks.
Many trades have occurred in the NHL these past days, and it looks like another one will be confirmed very soon by the Dallas Stars and the San Jose Sharks.
Indeed, the Minnesota Wild's ninth-overall pick in 2010 appears on the verge of being traded to the Dallas Stars.
Per Kevin Weekes and David Pagnotta:
Elliotte Friedman also confirmed the news, and added that Cody Ceci is also a part of the deal:
This season, Granlund, 32, scored 45 points in 52 games with the Sharks.
He will add a lot of depth to the Dallas Stars' lineup, which already has one of the best offensive units in the NHL.
Granlund is set to represent Finland at the upcoming NHL 4-Nations Face-Off.
As for Ceci, he's a reliable veteran defenseman who could play a key role on the Stars' blue line for the playoffs. He scored 15 points in 54 games with the Sharks this season.
Both Granlund and Ceci were arguably the biggest trade assets in San Jose ahead of the deadline.
The return was finally confirmed much later by Elliotte Friedman and Darren Derger, who announced that the Stars paid two draft picks for Granlund and Ceci:
The Stars organization offered comments on the trade in an official press release:
"We are excited to welcome both Mikael and Cody to Dallas. We see both players as addressing immediate needs for our team - Mikael is a proven scorer who will bolster our forward group at both even strength and on the power play, and Cody will add a stabilizing and physical presence to our blueline.
Both players will bring valuable postseason experience to our group, and we are looking forward to seeing their contributions to the Stars as the season continues."
Keep refreshing for the latest updates about the trade.
