The 26-year-old is coming off a strong season with the Maple Leafs, who signed him as an unrestricted free agent last summer after he wasn't issued a qualifying offer from the Washington Capitals.
It's unclear which date Samsonov will have his arbitration hearing, but both sides are still able to talk and work out a deal prior to that day. But with what Samsonov is reportedly asking for, it seems that the Maple Leafs and the Russian netminder will be heading to that hearing at some point over the next four weeks.
According to Sportsnet 590 radio, Samsonov is reportedly seeking $4-$5 million AAV on his next contract, which is a significant bump in pay from the $1.8 million he was earning during the 2022-23 season.
The Magnitogorsk, Russia native appeared in 42 games for the Maple Leafs last season where he had a record of 27-10-5 with a 2.33 goals against average, a .919 save percentage and four shutouts.
