While there's a bit of uncertainty surrounding Murray's future with the organization and it may be tough to move him this summer, there's still a chance he'll be a Maple Leaf by the time training camp opens up in September.
The NHL also has a second buyout window towards the end of August that the Maple Leafs could use to move on from Matt Murray. Once Samsonov's contract is either settled or awarded by an arbitrator, the Maple Leafs will be given a 48-hour buyout window, which begins three days after the hearing ends, to use on a player that was on the roster at last year's trade deadline and is making more than $4 million per season, according to PuckPedia.
It never hurts to have plenty of depth as injuries are bound to occur, but adding another goaltender to the organization doesn't seem like a pressing need at the moment. But it appears that Brad Treliving may have his sights on adding another goaltender to the roster.
According to Larry Brooks of the New York Post, the Maple Leafs could be a landing spot for 38-year-old Brian Elliott.
Elliott, a native of Newmarket, Ontario has spent parts of 16 seasons in the National Hockey League including the last two in Tampa Bay as the back up to Andrei Vasilevskiy. In 22 games last season, Elliott posted a record of 12-8-2 with a goals against average of 3.40, a save percentage of .891 and one shutout.
