Member of the core 4 not willing to take a discount; proving the culture inside the Leafs room is broken
The Toronto Maple Leafs have a problem within their organization; players aren't willing to do things for the betterment of the team and organization as a whole. This is something that started when Lou Lamoriello was general manager of the team.
Now, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, Leaf forward William Nylander won't be willing to take a slight pay cut to help the team and their cap situation; something that has been a trend. Take a look:
Friedman on NHL Network says he doesn't think William Nylander will take a discount if other players are not taking a discount as well.
This is something that has plagued the Leafs for a long time and quite frankly, if no one else is willing to help the team, why would Nylander?
It will continue to be a problem until they sort out the character issues and that won't happen until the culture in the room changes. The fact is, the Leafs won't win a single thing until their superstars become team first players who are willing to do anything to win.
