The Toronto Maple Leafs are going through one of the most difficult starts to the season in a long time. With players not playing as expected, to injuries mounting up rapidly.
The latest in the onslaught of bad news was Jake Muzzin out on IR with a cervical spine injury. The injury will have Muzzin side lined for at least up until late February and will need a reevaluation before anything happens.
The Toronto Maple Leafs players have shown their support for one of their own. Mitch Marner has been extremely vocal about his support for his teammate and friend and went on to say that it was an extremely emotional time when Muzzin broke the news to him.
When you get news like that, it's pretty emotional. It was just him and me in the room when he told me, and it's a sad thing. Like I've said before, there are a lot bigger things here than hockey and playing this game, and that's your family ...
Any injury is a serious injury in hockey. You never want to see your brother sidelined from the game you love playing. But with this injury on Muzzin's cervical spine, it puts things in perspective for everyone that at the end of the day, life isn't just about hockey.
