Elliotte Friedman has reported that the Toronto Maple Leafs have waived goaltender Petr Mrazek. When he was signed in the off-season, the Leafs envisioned Mrazek as a strong tandem option to Jack Campbell. However through the past two months, Mrazek has proven himself as a non-option in the NHL. His struggles have kept him below a .900 save percentage on the year.

Since the injury to Jack Campbell and considering Mrazek's recent play, the leafs have been pressured to make a move to bolster the team's goaltending. Whether this move is a tremor in the anticipation of a trade, or a commitment to Campbell and Källgren, the Leafs have begun to answer the questions of goaltending.

Though it seemed unlikely until Mrazek was placed on waivers, the Leafs have been linked to multiple goalies on the trade market, including Marc-Andre Fleury, Semyon Varlamov, Brayden Holtby, Anton Forsberg, and more. Perhaps placing Mrazek on waivers foreshadows a Leafs trade to acquire a goalie.

The Leafs have also signed the 32 year old Finnish pro goaltender Harri Sateri, probably as a depth option following the injury to Marlies' goalie Joseph Woll.

Friedman also reported the additional players placed on waivers today. Notably on the list is Kyle Turris, Riley Nash, Kyle Clifford, Harri Sateri and more.
