NHL Department of Player Safety announces supplemental discipline after brutal knee
Tampa Bay Lightning defenceman Ian Cole has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable amount under the CBA, for kneeing Colorado Avalanche forward Andrew Cogliano, NHL Player Safety announced on Friday.
The incident occurred during the first two minutes of the game, Ian Cole had a knee-on-knee collision with Andrew Cogliano. Cogliano went down and had to get help off after appearing unable to put weight on his right leg. He left the game briefly but returned shortly after.
The 33 year old Cole has scored 3 goals and 14 points in 48 games played this season. He is averaging 19:11 in ice time playing on the teams third pairing.
The 35 year old Cogliano has scored 8 goals and 12 points in 48 games played. He's averaging 13:35 in ice time.
