Yesterday afternoon, former player and referee Paul Stewart revealed some troubling allegations against a current NHL coach in a Twitter thread.

Stewart detailed an account of an unnamed current NHL coach who repeatedly verbally abused two minor league officials for disagreeing with the calls. The NHL coach has not faced any consequences for his actions, but the former NHL official, who he accompanied, received a 30 day ban from minor hockey and a 2 year ban from entering an official's room.

It was brought to my attention to a former NHL officiating colleague of mine and a current NHL coach were involved recently in incidents where they allegedly verbally abused and bullied young amateur officials at youth hockey games. I have both incident reports in my hand.

Both the former NHL official and the current NHL coach allegedly pulled the "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?!" card to try to intimidate the young officials. One incident involved two 17-year-old officials. The other included a 20-year-old female college student who officiated.

The former NHL official got a slap on the wrist: 30 day suspension from youth hockey coaching, 2-yr ban from entering officials' dressing room for any reason. He's nonetheless appealing the decision to the state authority.

I don't know what -- if anything -- will happen with the current NHL coach.

In berating these two officials, who were as young as 17 years old, the NHL coach made sure to intimidate and establish power over them with the age-old narcissist's mantra: «Do you know who I am?»

Frankly, this behavior from an NHL coach to minor league hockey officials, who are minors themselves, is reprehensible. Stewart outlines in his Twitter thread that for now the NHL coach has escaped a punishment, but it won't elude him forever. The coach will at least be named in the near future, and will face public criticism for his actions, at least.
