NHL Insider reveals the exact contract the New York Islanders offered Nazem Kadri
Nazem Kadri still remains a free agent almost a full month after the start of Free Agency. According to multiple reports Kadri and his agent still have their sights set on a contract that pays him north of $9,000,000 per season. Kadri and his agent are simply trying to capitalize on the best season of Kadri's career and not his full body of work.
Last season Kadri out up 87 points in 71 games for the Avalanche. This eclipsed his career high of 61 points which he put up in 2016-2017 with the Toronto Maple Leafs. So while Kadri values himself as a $9,000,000 player it doesn't appear any NHL General Manager sees him paid that highly.
That reportedly includes Lou Lamoreillo, who is reported to have offered Kadri a contract over the past month. According to Frank Seravalli the contract Lamoreillo offered Kadri is significantly lower than his asking price.
On the Daily FaceOff Podcast, Seravalli shared the following information.
I think (the #isles) put an offer on the table for Kadri. Other teams have told me they believe it's in the 7x7 range.
That is still likely the best deal Kadri will be offered, but he has yet to sign the deal with the Islanders officially. A 7-year contract Kadri will take him to 39-years-old, so a deal paying him $7,000,000 is more than fair.
It will be interesting to see how Lamoreillo approaches this going forward as he's notorious for pulling deals if information becomes public.
