Since the Columbus Blue Jackets and Minnesota Wild came into the league at the same time in 2000, they have had a small rivalry. Being in close proximity of each other the teams have always been connected.
Saturday night's game between the two teams got physical. It started in the first period when Jacob Middleton of the Wild hit Columbus' Zach Werenski with a high hit near the end of the 1st period.
Werenski would not return due to an upper body injury.
Then just a few minutes later, as time expired in the first period, the Blue Jackets Vladislav Gavrikov slewfooted Kevin Fiala. This of course drew a crowd.
Later in the second period, Oliver Bjorkstrand hit the Wild's Marcus Foligno from behind. Fortunately Foligno was able to get up.
Somehow there was not a single fighting major given out in this game. Things quieted down as there was only one penalty called in the third period.
It is expected the NHL Department of Player Safety will be looking into multiple plays from this game.
