NHL announces next step in Ian Cole investigation
Over the weekend an anonymous Twitter account posted claims of grooming and sexual assault against Ian Cole. The allegations claimed that Cole groomed the victim while she was in high school and he was in the NHL. At this time the claims and allegations are still just that allegations.
Ian Cole released a statement through his agent vehemently denying the allegations. The Tampa Bay Lightning though determined this wasn't worth the risk and suspended Cole with pay, pending investigation.
Now the NHL has officially announced what steps they'll be taking next. According to Elliotte Friedman the NHL has decided that they will hold an immediate interview with Cole on Wednesday.
Initially reported last night by @emilymkaplan, but there will be what's being called an "interview" (not a hearing) with Ian Cole on Wednesday in New York City. Expected attendance will include NHL, NHLPA and legal representation for Cole.
It's clear the NHL is interested in getting to the bottom of the these claims sooner rather than later. Hopefully the truth comes out and everyone involved is dealt with accordingly.
