Insider reveals which team is the favourite to land Patrick Kane
The Chicago Blackhawks start the season against the Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche tomorrow evening in Denver. For now, Chicago is keeping the two best players Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane. Chicago looks like it is well on its way to a rebuild after several consecutive losing seasons. Rumors have been swirling that Toews and Kane will be traded even though they both have no move clauses in their contracts. As the season progresses, it would seem likely that Chicago gets whatever assets it can by the trade deadline.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman believes that the New York Rangers would be a great fit for Patrick Kane. If you think about it, that move makes a lot of sense. New York is a desirable place to play, they're Stanley Cup contenders coming out of the East, and New York has the young assets the Blackhawks would be interested in. Imagine Kane being reunited with Artemi Panarin again that would be special. Or think about Kane going out on the power play with Kreider, Zibanejad, Fox, and Panarin. This is the kind of move that could put the New York Rangers over the top and make them the team to beat.
For Ranger fans, it would be nice to daydream about the Kane scenario. However, having the cap space to acquire Kane could be challenging. We'll see how the season plays out, but the Rangers would have to create cap space to fit Kane's ten-million-dollar salary. There are plenty of other NHL franchise that would love to have Kane or Toews on their clubs so Chicago may listen to multiple offers all while trading their starts to places they want to play for.
