The Calgary Flames are not only coming off a very disappointing season on and off the ice. We all know the team didn't line up to expectations, but at the very least it looks like they'll be getting a new arena to replace the Saddledome before too long.
The oft-falling-apart Scotia Bank Saddledome has been and will always be one of the worse arenas in the National Hockey League next to the Arizona Coyotes. It looks like Calgary will soon have a new arena, take a look:
City of Calgary release touts "an important announcement" regarding future event centre at 3:30pm MT. Mayor Gondek, Cllr Sharp, Premier Smith, CSEC president/CEO John Bean and Stampede CEO Joel Cowley slated to be in attendance.
A new arena for the city of Calgary and the Flames would be huge. I know some people don't feel safe going to watch games there as it is with the framework and with comments made by current players on locker cleanout day it seems like is long over due.
How do we feel about the Calgary Event Centre replacing the Saddledome?
According to reports, the new arena will be called the Calgary Event Centre and should bring Calgary in to the modern era of NHL arenas
