When Ovechkin finally spoke to the media regarding the invasion, he said simply, "no more war." The media wants Ovechkin to condemn Putin and his actions, and make it public that he is not a Putin supporter.
With Ovechkin's family back in Russia, and thousands of people in Russia being put into jail for protesting against the war, it makes sense that Ovechkin would not take a public stand against Putin's actions in fear of his family's safety.
The NHL has also experienced a lot of pressure to be extremely tough on Russia, and they've done a great job so far. The league took a stance that involved suspending all Russian partnerships, effective immediately. Most fans have been happy with the leagues response, but you can't please everyone.
Today New York Post journalist, Larry Brooks, tried to take things even further by trying to put his own form of pressure on the NHL. Brooks sent out the following Tweet this morning.
Not only is Brooks trying to put some pressure on the NHL, but he's also trying to shame fans who've opted to wear Ovechkin's jersey.
His only justification? Ovechkin's Instagram display picture.
What do you think of Brooks statement? Should the NHL stop selling all Ovechkin jerseys, cards etc.. or is this all starting to go too far?
