Nazem Kadri, newly signed Calgary Flame and Stanley Cup Champion with the Colorado Avalanche finally has his day with the cup. Coming home with the cup to celebrate with your community is always special, but today is historic for another reason as well.
Today, Nazem Kadri brought the Stanley cup back to his hometown of London, Ontario and is believed to be the first NHL player to bring the cup inside a mosque.
If this whole thing wasn't wholesome enough, Kadri's grandparents were able to enjoy their grandson's moment with him. If this doesn't make you tear up, I don't know what will.
This is a good reminder that hockey players aren't self made. They have a community around them that propels them to the levels they eventually get to.
Now and forever, the London Muslim Mosque will be a historic landmark and that should mean something across the hockey world.
Congratulations Nazem, you deserve this.
