New team enters the Jakob Chychrun sweepstakes after terrible start to season
When a team that's expected to contend gets off to a poor start it often forces a General Manager's hand. With elevated expectations that appears to be what's happening to the Minnesota Wild. The Wild were hoping to build off last year's playoff berth with a strong start to the year.
Unfortunately that hasn't happened and the Wild are 0-3-0 having given up 20 goals in the just 3 games. This start has encouraged Bill Guerin to start making phone calls to attempt to improve his team.
According to Adam Proteau, the Wild are still considered a longshot to acquire Chychrun but the noise is certainly getting louder in Minnesota. Fans have already been out in full force buying the team, and letting them know their effort isn't appreciated.
Unfortunately though for the Wild a move for Chychrun becomes difficult due to their salary cap situation. The Wild currently have a dead cap situation totalling $12,743,588 this season, rising to $14,743,588 next year.
So any move the Wild make has to take that into consideration. Combined with the fact that the Arizona Coyotes want picks and prospects it appears a deal becomes less and less likely.
