Wayne Simmonds has plenty of hockey left in him. But unfortunately, the Toronto Maple Leafs are crunched with the cap and have a hard time fitting him into the lineup because of that. Simmonds is currently only on the Leafs roster due to an injury to Matt Murray clearing cap space.
Teams have been calling and asking about Wayne Simmonds as they would love to add this gritty 2-way forward to their lineup. The Maple Leafs though are trying to do right by Simmonds and want to find him a good fit with a team he'd be interested in going to. Now it appears another divisional team has recently shown some interest in his services and it would make sense to add him to their lineup.
The Ottawa Senators have been on a run lately with big name signings in the off season and would be looking to add some grit to their forwards and with a current cap space of $4,000,000 Simmonds $900,000 cap hit would fit in without any maneuvering.
The question now becomes will the Leafs be willing to deal him to a divisional rival, even if it means doing right by Simmonds?
