We are still in shock after the blockbuster trade between the Calgary Flames and Florida Panthers. The deal saw Matthew Tkachuk shipped from the cold Alberta winters to the sunshine of Florida.
The deal also saw, long time Florida Panther, Johnathan Huberdeau headed back to Calgary along with Mackenzie Weegar, Cole Schwindt and a first round pick. However, this wasn't just one of the biggest deals in recent history it was actually a history making deal.
This was the first 100 point player swap since the historic Wayne Gretzky Trade from the Edmonton Oilers to Los Angeles Kings in 1988. That's not all, Flames General Manager, Brad Treliving shared Friday, Matthew Tkachuk trade was the first ever sign and trade in NHL history.
Calgary, Florida, and Tkachuk's camp negotiated a contract. Tkachuk then signed the deal with Calgary before a trade was made with the Panthers.
