The Carolina Hurricanes were hosting the Dallas Stars on Thursday night. The Hurricanes came out flying on the night controlling most of the possession and peppering newly acquired goaltender Scott Wedgewood in his first start.

With 11:05 left in the 1st. Carolina winger Andrei Svechnikov delivered an ugly hit to Tyler Seguin near the boards. You can see in the video his stick does come up and catches Seguin. Svechnikov was called for a 2 minute roughing penalty on the play that Dallas couldn't convert on. At the end of the 1st the shots were 18-4 for Carolina with the score still 0-0.

The game would eventually end up in a shootout with Tyler Seguin getting the last laugh as he was the only player to score in the shootout to give his team the win.

With the win the Stars hold onto the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference, with 75 points. They hold a 1 point lead on Vegas and are 4 points up on the Canucks. They have 4 games in hand on Vegas and 3 games in hand on the Canucks.

There has been no request by player safety to speak with Andrei Svechnikov on the play so it appears he has escaped without any punishment.

Opinion: To me the play looked uglier than the cross check Auston Matthews delivered on Rasmus Dahlin that got him 2 games. Maybe the reason is because that Incident happened at the Winter Classic on a National Broadcast with a lot more eyeballs watching.
