Game 2 between the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers started almost the same as game 1. The Calgary Flames went up 2-0 six minutes into the game. But the Oilers have managed to keep this game closer through the first period, but the potential game tying goal was disallowed.

With just three minutes left in the first period Zach Hyman drove the net and took a shot on goal. The rebound came out to Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and it looked like he was able to jam it in. However, the whistle went at around the same time as the puck crossed the line. The referee immediately signalled no goal. They did decide to review the call though.

It's hard with all the sticks and bodies in the crease to see if the puck crossed the line before the whistle. Also, should there have even been a whistle if the puck was still lose? The rule does state though that the play should be called dead when the referee first intends to blow the whistle. Oilers fans will complain about this one and Flames fans will agree with the referees. Tough call to make either way in a game like this.
