Slovakian Female Phenom set to break record of former 1st overall pick
Jaraj Slafkovsky, who helped Slovakia win the Men's Hockey Bronze medal at the 2022 Beijing Olympics was the talk around town last year in Bratislava, this year it's Nela Lopusanova.
The fourteen-year-old who is competing at the under-18 women's world hockey championship and just pulled off one of the better «Michigan» goals you'll ever see plays at home in the U16 men's league.
Lopusanova who stands 5'7 & 145lbs has 15 goals and 31 points in ten games played. When compared to Slafkovsky's numbers in the same league, Lopusanova holds an edge of 3.10 points per game to Slafkovsky's 2.34.
We could be legitimately seeing the first woman drafted into the NHL, but we'd have to wait as her draft year isn't until 2026.
