Steven Stamkos shares how someone in Toronto ruined his point streak
Mitch Marner is currently on an 18 game point streak, a streak that tied the all-time franchise record. Marner added an empty net goal late on Wednesday night to extend his point streak. Tonight the Toronto Maple Leafs face off against the Tampa Bay Lightning, in a game where Marner will attempt to break the all-time record.
The current record holder for consecutive games with a point for the Tampa Bay Lightning is team Captain, Steven Stamkos. Stamkos set the mark for the franchise back in 2009-2010. Before tonight's game Stamkos was asked if he remembered the streak and what he remembered most.
According to Stamkos the thing he remembered most was how the streak ended.
I remember it like it was yesterday because my sticks got stolen after the game at the TOR airport by TOR security & then I didn't get a point the next game, so I remember that pretty clear.
I'm not sure that happens anymore, but it certainly happened in the past, depending on which airports you go to, especially the ones where they love hockey. Your sticks sometimes go missing.
Stamkos shared that both he and Martin St-Louis were missing sticks the night his streak ended. Tonight the Lightning will look to bring Marner's streak to a halt as the two teams face off in a rematch of last year's first round.
