Odds are if you're playing or coaching in the American Hockey League someone has influence over your career, you always want to make it to the next level. However, you'd think that as a head coach in the AHL, you'd be able to make decisions regarding the personnel you play during a given game, but that might not always be the case. You always have to answer to somebody and sometimes, they overrule your decisions.

During the 2022 Calder Cup Playoff, the head coach of the Charlotte Checkers, Ryan Warsofsky almost lost his job because he want playing the goaltender the NHL club wanted to see. The Carolina Hurricanes wanted to see prospect Pyotr Kochetkov, but Warsofsky liked the play of Alex Lyon and he was almost fired because of it; take a look.

Carolina threatening to fire the team's then-head coach Ryan Warsofsky during the 2022 Calder Cup Finals if he continued to play goaltender Alex Lyon over Hurricanes prospect goalie Pyotr Kochetkov

Whatever the case may be, a head coach's job is to ice the best possible team in order to win hockey games, especially in the playoffs. Forcing a head coach to play one goaltender over the other doesn't sound like a team that's invested in winning, and, it sure doesn't sound like a team that trusts their American League head coach.

This is certainly a story and if true, looks really, really bad on the Carolina hurricanes as an organization
