It appears that the end of the Boston Bruins Head Coach search is near, at least according to Elliotte Friedman. Friedman reported that only 2 coaches have made their short-list.

David Quinn had an unsuccessful run as the New York Rangers head coach, notorious for his mishandling of Kaapo Kakko which to me isn't sound judgment regarding a young player with potential. Even Larry David made a major point 2 years ago regarding this:

«Why did [Quinn] bench Kakko in that third period after he scored?" David asked hosts Michael Kay and Don La Greca. "First goal in 14 games and an assist, [Quinn] benches him because he takes a bad penalty. C'mon, that's ridiculous.»

According to Joe McDonald, Quinn has emerged as a favorite for the position, as he has met with management for 2 interviews as of June 27th.

The Bruins would be Quinn's second stint as an NHL head coach. He previously coached the New York Rangers for three seasons and posted a 96-87-25 record in 208 games.

Under Quinn the Rangers missed the playoffs 2 years in a row out of the three he was there. He is still new blood in regards to the coaching carousel, but will he be the new blood Boston needs? I remain skeptical.

Next up on the short-list is Jim Montgomery, former Dallas Stars Head Coach:

1255726 (.663)

That was his record for 2 years in the NHL with the Stars, a respectable stat above .500.

Montgomery had been let go despite his record, due to his battle with alcoholism, so this would be essentially a second chance. He completed recovery and did some time behind Craig Berube as an assistant in St. Louis recently.

By all means, it would make sense given his background to give him a redemption arc:

-Two USHL championships with the Dubuque Fighting Saints in his three seasons there, from 2010-11 to 2012-13

-Five NCAA tournament appearances in five seasons with the Denver Pioneers, from 2013-14 to 2017-18

-Two Frozen Fours with the Pios

-A national championship with the Pios

-A national coach of the year award with the Pios

-Immediately led the Dallas Stars to the playoffs in his first season as head coach, Dallas' first appearance in three seasons

After Don Sweeney's latest mess, will be smart enough to clean it up?
